About the CLAT Exam

The Consortium of National Law Universities conducts the CLAT or Common Law Admission Test every year. It is one of the most competitive entrance tests in India. Students with the highest scores in the CLAT exam get admission to the best NLUs in India, except the NLU Delhi. This is because it has an independent entrance test of its own. Eligibility Criteria for the CLAT Examination:

1. UG Eligibility Criteria:
   • ● There is no specific age limit for those willing to appear for the CLAT UG examination.
   • ● If you are a candidate belonging to the General, OBD, NRI, OCI, PWD, or PIO categories, you must have scored at least 45% in the 10+2 examination (or equivalent).
   • ● If you are a candidate belonging to the SC or ST categories, you must have scored at least 40% in the 10+2 examination (or equivalent).
   • ● If you are appearing for your qualifying exam in March/April of a year, you are eligible to appear for the CLAT exam of the same year. Of course, passing evidence of the same is necessary for the successful completion of the admission process.
   • ● If you score the same marks as another candidate, a tie 4-breaker will be determined by considering the marks scored in the Legal Aptitude section, higher age, and computerized draw (in the same order).
2. PG Eligibility Criteria::
   • ● You must have completed an LL.B. degree from a recognized university to appear for the CLAT PG examination.
   • ● If you are a candidate from categories like General, OBD, OCI, PWD, NRI, or PIO, you must have scored at least 50% marks in the LL.B. examination (aggregate).
   • ● If you are a candidate from categories like ST or SC, you must have scored at least 45% marks in the LL.B. examination (aggregate).
   • ● No upper age limit exists for those willing to appear for the CLAT PG examination.
   • ● The tie breaker rule is different in the case of the PG test from the UG test. First, the tie will be broken on the basis of higher age. If this doesn’t break it, a computerized draw of lots will be conducted.

Understanding the CLAT Exam Pattern

• ● The questions are in MCQ or Multiple-Choice Question format.
