1 Syllabus / exam pattern

• Consortium CLAT UG: Logical Reasoning — passages of about 450 words followed by questions on arguments, premises, conclusions, inferences, analogies and contradictions.
• Tasks include identifying arguments, analysing reasoning patterns, and assessing how conclusions depend on premises.

2 Previous year questions (PYQs)

Archive themes:

• Main conclusion vs intermediate claim.
• Necessary vs sufficient assumption.
• Strengthen / weaken with a new fact.
• Flaw: causal, sampling, false dichotomy.

4 Strategy

• Paraphrase conclusion in your own words before opening options.
• For assumption, use the negation test.
• Do not bring outside policy views into strengthen/weaken.

5 Common mistakes

• Treating LR as CAT-style puzzles only.
• Choosing an option that is true but does not affect the argument.
• Confusing inference (must be true) with strengthen (helps the argument).
