CLAT Quantitative Techniques Preparation

1 Syllabus / exam pattern

• Consortium CLAT UG: Quantitative Techniques — short sets of facts, graphs, or other textual/numerical representations, followed by questions.
• Underlying maths is typically at Class 10 level: ratios, percentages, averages, time-work, mensuration as used in sets.

2 Previous year questions (PYQs)

Sets in recent papers (see archive) usually involve:

• Tables and bar/pie charts with one calculation per question.
• Percent change and ratio comparison.
• A word-problem set rather than 12 disconnected sums.

4 Strategy

• Copy the table once; annotate units.
• Estimate before calculating to catch option traps.
• Attempt QT after a passage you can finish; do not leave the whole section blank.

5 Common mistakes

• Skipping QT entirely and leaking easy marks.
• Mixing percentage of A with percentage of B.
• Over-precision when options are far apart.

6 Worked approach

Worked approach: a table of five NLUs and applicants. Question: “By what percent did applications rise from Year 1 to Year 2 for NLU X?”
